About the Artist
In 1912 Paris, Mondrian experimented with Cubism—fracturing subjects into multiple viewpoints. Back in Holland by 1914, he pushed further, reducing natural forms to simplified geometric patterns. Unlike the Cubists, he eventually abandoned recognizable subjects altogether, developing a rational, intellectual style he called Neo-Plasticism.
His signature language—black grid lines, white ground, and blocks of primary red, blue, and yellow—became one of the most recognizable visual vocabularies in modern art.
