Furuya Kōrin (1875–1910) was a Japanese artist and designer active in Kyoto during the Meiji period. A student of Kamisaka Sekka, he was heavily influenced by the Rinpa school of painting and adopted the name Kōrin in homage to Ogata Kōrin (1658–1716), referring to himself as "Kōrin of the modern age." His 1904 publication Shima-Shima (meaning "Stripes") is a two-volume collection of color woodblock textile motifs, created for the Kyoto kimono trade. The albums gathered classical and modern stripe and plaid combinations as working references for Nishijin weavers and kimono designers, published by Unsōdō.
This reversible bucket hat features a design from Shima-Shima, first published in 1904. One side carries Kōrin's geometric plaid pattern; the other is plain black for a quieter look. Two hats in one.
