About the History
Frog, Ibo Legendary Figure is part of the Artworks by African Artists series, compiled by the Harmon Foundation between 1947 and 1967. The Harmon Foundation was a nonprofit organization active from 1922 to 1967 that fostered awareness of African and African-American art, collecting thousands of artworks and photographs before donating its entire collection to the National Archives when it closed.
The Ibo (Igbo) people of southeastern Nigeria have a rich tradition of visual storytelling, and the frog appears in various African folktales as a trickster or transformative figure.
