About the Artist

Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) was a French Fauvist painter celebrated for his vibrant color and decorative style. In 1910, poet Guillaume Apollinaire invited Dufy to illustrate his forthcoming book Le Bestiaire ou Cortège d'Orphée—a modern take on the medieval bestiary tradition. Dufy delivered 30 woodcuts, one for each of Apollinaire's poems about animals, real and mythical. The collaboration was a triumph, and the book became a landmark of twentieth-century French graphic art.

About This Tote

This tote features Dufy's Le Chat (The Cat), one of the most beloved woodcuts from the Bestiaire series. Created in 1911, the image captures the feline form through Dufy's signature fanciful patterning and bold, simplified linework.
