About The Artist
Arthur H. Lee (1853–1932) founded his textile firm in Bolton in 1888, later building a purpose-built factory in Birkenhead in 1908 . The company earned a reputation for high-quality hand-blocked fabrics, innovative tapestry weaving, and a celebrated revival of hand-crafted crewelwork and needlepoint . The firm continued under Arthur's sons and grandsons until closing in 1970, though its American branch, Lee Jofa, still operates in New York today .
About This Set
This napkin set features a floral design from A.H. Lee & Sons' archive. The company's pattern books from the late 19th and early 20th centuries included Art Nouveau-style florals with tapering flower forms on natural grounds, as well as intricate Jacquard-woven botanical repeats . Their designs balanced the ornamental with the wearable—flowers and foliage rendered with the same care they brought to their celebrated embroideries.
