Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935) was a Russian avant-garde artist and art theorist, and the founder of Suprematism—one of the most radical movements in modern art. Developed from 1913, Suprematism was defined by basic geometric forms—circles, squares, lines, and rectangles—painted in a restricted palette. Malevich believed that art should abandon the depiction of the visible world entirely and instead explore the pure feeling of form and color.
